The Eighth Ward – Election Discussion
The eighth ward is what I refer to as the forgotten ward. It is currently represented by Brian Dumas who is not running for re-election.
Mike Matson
Mike Matson believe Davenport is a great place to live. I think that is the best statement you could use to start out a website. He wants to help make it even better. His issues are Responsible and Responsive Leadership, Public Safety, Strong Voice for 8th Ward, Better Roads and Parks, Quality of Life for All.
Strengths -His military experience implies a professionalism needed on the council. While the current alderman is professional, he hasn’t exactly been a voice for his ward so Mike’s concern about being responsible and responsive seems fitting for his ward.
Weaknesses -Nothing jumped out at me but I’m sure the posters will help. Sorry guys, I’ve gone through a lot of candidates lately.
Becky Schabilion
Becky has put together a website at http://www.becky4alderman.com/. Becky’s issues are Ending the Bickering, Re-evaluating Property Tax Assessments, Trash System Problems, and Your Issues are My Issues.
Strengths -Becky talks about some of the major issues for the city. She has some good ideas. My favorite quality of Becky is her ability to disagree politely. When I posted during the primary that I didn’t think crime was an issue for her ward, she politely corrected me, and I do think she was/is correct.
Weaknesses -I’ll let other posters fill in weaknesses today.
Summary
Both candidates sound like they will be a positive voice for their ward. I was right in my primary prediction that Mike Matson would make it, but I underestimated Becky. She was behind Mike by 15% in the primary but there were also many candidates. This ward could go either way.

There was a good field in this ward this year. While the person I voted for in the primary did not get through, I still think this ward will end up with a good representative for the next 2 years. Out of who to vote for between Matson and Schabilion, not sure yet. It’s too bad Becky’s website is not really functional. I have not seen her in my neighborhood at all yet either. I have met with Mike and he seems like a good man. Anyone else have anything to add to help me decide?
Schabilion has been at my house, she has some good ideas and issues. I haven’t seen any issues from Matson. I like her mailer which has ideas and her phone number on it. I got one from Matson and no numbers or ideas.
PS The last 4 days of the times had things in it and Schabilion had better answers than Matson as far as I was concerned..

Check out Becky’s rental units by viewing them on the recorders office. Not the best looking housing stock I’ve seen. I just can’t trust anyone that owns rental property in Davenport right now. With all the goings on with Lubell and the dirty boys makes my stomach churn, can’t help to think that she ran for her own agenda or even Lubell’s. I don’t think she can be trusted.
Walnut, you are correct, Becky appears to be a landlord, she owns multiple properties.
What was with her mailer and it saying I “want” to ber your alderman. The quotation marks make no sense!
I don’t understand. All I see on this is if you own property or manage property your not suppose to run for any office. Walnut, Is there anyone running you like? #7 I bet if you call her and ask her what the quatation marks mean she’ll have an answer for you. If you got a mailer her number is on there.
If you also look on city record as said on Jim Fisher the other day Gluba owns over 45 properties/land in Davenport.
I really don’t care! It has no baring on this years election.
